About Flavia Carbonari

Flavia Carbonari is a senior international development specialist focused on social development, gender, peace, and security. She has been working as a consultant with the World Bank for over 15 years, working on operational, research, and technical assistance projects focused on social inclusion, citizen security, conflict, gender, and social accountability. She has worked in over 20 countries in Latin America, Africa, and East Asia. Since 2020, she has acted as a technical advisor to the Halving Global Violence Task Force at the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies. From 2016-2019 she worked as a special advisor to the National Secretary of Planning, Coordination and Capacity Building at the Ministry of Security of Argentina. She has also led research projects with several NGOs, research institutes, and think tanks. Before starting her career in international development, she worked as a journalist covering international politics and economics.

Carbonari holds a MA in Latin American studies from Georgetown University and graduated from Pontifícia Universidade Católica of São Paulo with a BA in international relations and a BA in journalism. Based in Buenos Aires since 2013, she recently began teaching at graduate and undergraduate citizen security programs in different universities in Argentina, including NYU Buenos Aires.
