About Jonathan Schachter

Jonathan Schachter served as an advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from 2013 to 2018. Schachter's portfolio included US-Israel relations, Israel-Diaspora affairs, and briefing Congressional and other senior international delegations.

As the senior foreign policy advisor, Schachter was a regular participant in Israeli Security Cabinet meetings. He advised the prime minister on pivotal policy issues, from the Iran nuclear deal to the peace process to the expansion of Israel's ties in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. He was part of the small team that worked on exposing the Iranian nuclear archive and on major foreign policy addresses by the prime minister.

From 2011 to 2013, Schachter worked for Israel’s National Security Council. Previously, Schachter was a research fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv and a lecturer at Northwestern University, where he taught courses on national security, foreign policy, terrorism, and public policy.

Schachter holds a doctorate in policy analysis and master's degrees in Near Eastern studies and Middle Eastern history.
