Stephen C. Anderson is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of counselor. He served as deputy chief of mission and Chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Antananarivo, Madagascar, from 2014-2017 where he was responsible for restoring full diplomatic relations after a 2009 coup. Previously, he served as spokesperson at the US Embassy in Rome, Italy, where he has also worked as a political officer. He has served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan focused mainly on the management of provincial reconstruction teams. He has also been posted to Mexico, Germany, Guatemala, and Argentina since joining the Foreign Service in 1994 and is the recipient of numerous State Department superior and meritorious honor awards. He holds an MS in applied economics and a BA in economics from Marquette University. He is married with three children.
