YP Theater Night: Great Expectations

Join the Council’s Young Professionals Network for an evening performance of Great Expectations at Silk Road Rising Theater. Dickens’ classic tale of class is reimagined as a story of caste and transplanted to a colonized India by award-winning British Bengali playwright Tanika Gupta. When Indian orphan Pip receives a mysterious inheritance, he must choose between his humble rural life and the city life of an English “gentleman.”  As global immigration grows and populations consolidate into urban centers, this tale of socio-economic inequality rings as true today as ever, begging the question - what do newcomers have to sacrifice for economic mobility?

Join us for a pre-theater reception including drinks and food followed by the play.
