When China Shifts: Devaluations, Markets, and Industry

John Box, Partner, Sidley Austin LLP; John Frisbie, President, The US-China Business Council; Dali Yang, William Claude Reavis Professor in the Department of Political Science, The University of Chicago. Moderated by Phil Levy.

This program will be live streamed beginning at 6 p.m. CDT.

From stock market fluctuations to slowing trade, 2015 has already presented major challenges to both China and its partners. Though China’s economy is still growing and investment interest from US businesses remains strong, the latest challenges have raised questions about how Beijing will respond – and what to expect for the next eight years under President Xi Jinping. Can China maintain momentum for economic reform in the face of slowing growth, and what are US investors’ biggest concerns about China’s market? What will negotiations on the Bilateral Investment Treaty, and trade deals such as TPP and RCEP mean for the US, China, and their neighbors?

For the fifth year straight, the Council has partnered with the US-China Business Council to discuss these questions and the results of USCBC’s annual survey on US investors’ views of the Chinese economy. Come join in the conversation with other leading China experts to hear up to the minute insights.
