As state and local economies continue to be deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, governors are requesting billions of dollars in aid from the federal government. Yet some political leaders are proposing additional options for states regarding their financial situations. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently suggested that states should be allowed to declare bankruptcy, though Congress would need to pass legislation to allow this to happen.
