75 years after the defeat of Nazi Germany, anti-Jewish bigotry and violence are on the rise around the world. From the shootings in Île-de-France, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey, to the thousands of incidents that go unreported, antisemitic hate crimes have surged over the last few years. What drives this global resurgence of antisemitic tropes and violence? Has the world forgotten where discrimination and hatred, unchecked, could lead? Join us virtually as the Chicago Council on Global Affairs convenes a panel of experts to discuss contemporary antisemitism, and what can be done to defeat it.
As part of the program, Andrew Goldberg, director of the 2020 documentary film Viral: Antisemitism in Four Mutations will screen select clips from the movie. The full documentary film will broadcast on PBS/WTTW on May 26 at 9pm (check local listings).
