Joyce Banda on a New Path for Africa

Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, Former President of the Republic of Malawi

Joyce Banda 10 9 14

It is a cliché amongst many observers of Africa that the continent is broken. Indeed, human rights violations, civil wars, and problematic governance all pose serious challenges for much of Africa. But according to Dr. Joyce Banda, the story of Africa is not of tribulation but of opportunity. By protecting and investing in children, fighting corruption, and—perhaps most importantly—empowering women, Africa may be able solve many of its most endemic problems and fully engage in the global economy. What priorities do African leaders need to set in order for their continent to thrive? How can the international business and civic communities support these efforts?
