Futures Exchange: Chicago Students Discover China

Eileena Gray, Jimmy Harper, Jordyn Holman, Alek Rinholm, Emily Tam, and Mackenzie Trumbull, Students of Walter Payton College Prep; Terry Mazany, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Chicago Community Trust

This summer sixteen students and six teachers from Walter Payton College Prep High School toured China as guests of President Hu Jintao and formed sister-school agreements with two of China’s premier schools. Hosted by Hanban and the Confucius Institute, this delegation was able to experience firsthand China’s history, culture, and language and gain a deeper appreciation for global realities of the future. Join The Chicago Council on Global Affairs to hear representatives of the delegation share accounts of this trip, underscoring Thomas Friedman’s contention that the world is, indeed, "hot, flat, and crowded." How the United States responds to these new realities is in the hands of young leaders like these students at Walter Payton.
