A Conversation with Hank Paulson on US-China Relations and the Global Economic Outlook

Henry M. Paulson, Jr, Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury

This past spring, representatives of President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao convened for the “China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue” in Beijing. This important dialogue was first established in September 2006 by then US Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson and China’s Vice Premier Wu Yi with the goal of creating a mechanism for constructive and cooperative relations between China and the United States. As both countries continue to manage the global economic downturn, the United States and China find themselves inextricably linked and on the verge of a currency policy tipping point. At this second annual Dr. Scholl Foundation Lecture on US-China Relations, Hank Paulson will offer his thoughts for the years ahead.
