Civically Engaged Minds: What Are Today's Wave of Protests Telling Us?

A recent surge of rallies and demonstrations – from the March for Life to March for Our Lives and Black Lives Matter to Blue Lives Matter – have erupted across major US cities. News of this activism has filtered through traditional media networks, social media sites, and helped to mobilize many activists across the world. Yet, despite going viral and gaining global momentum, are these grassroots campaigns leading to concrete policy changes in the United States and beyond? How has social media helped to accelerate and intensify protest movements and given a platform to ordinary citizens to voice their beliefs?
