The Dr. Scholl Foundation Visiting Fellow on US-China Relations was established in 2012 to build Chicago-China institutional ties, advance dialogue between Chicagoans and Chinese experts, and enhance Chicago’s relevance and visibility with Chinese leaders. An advisory committee selects the Scholl Fellow for his or her expertise and interest in topics relevant to Chicago and its institutions.
Each year, the Council brings a senior Chinese scholar, former policymaker, or other expert from a leading Chinese institution to Chicago for six to 10 weeks to meet with local thought leaders at universities, nonprofit organizations, companies, and civic institutions. The fellow also travels throughout the Midwest to universities and other institutions with interest and expertise on US-China relations, and to Washington, DC, to meet with experts at American think tanks, policymakers, academics, and NGO leaders.
