He works with key stakeholders from various sectors of Chicago to make progress on the city’s own pledged goals. Horek also volunteers with Upwardly Global, where he helps immigrants with engineering and scientific backgrounds as they navigate the US job market.
Horek was a Young Professional Ambassador with the Council from 2012 to 2016 and attended the 2012 NATO Young Atlanticist Summit as a Chicago delegate. He earned his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his PhD in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University, which he attended on a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and Nevada.
