Allison Tingwall headshot

Allison Tingwall has been the proud principal of Curie High School since June 2015. Curie is the third-largest school in Chicago, drawing half of its 2,900 students from across the city for magnet programs in fine arts, International Baccalaureate, and career and technical education. In Tingwall’s first three years as principal, Curie saw a 90 percent reduction in arrests, a 74 percent reduction in on-campus fights, an increase of 5 percent in college enrollment, and an increase of over 8 percent in freshmen on-track. She began her career in education as a Spanish and math teacher at North Lawndale College Prep and further developed her instructional leadership as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and a resident principal at Back of the Yards College Prep. Tingwall has been involved with Basketball as a Mission, a nonprofit that runs youth basketball camps in Central America, as a volunteer coach and board member since 2009. She holds a BA from the University of Michigan, an MEd from UIC in instructional leadership, and an EdD from UIC in urban education leadership.
