Director, Government and Diplomatic Programs

Matthew Abbott joined the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in 2015 as the director of government and diplomatic programs.  Prior to joining the Council, he served as director of global and economic affairs for US Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) and also served on the staff of then-Congressman Kirk (R-IL 10th District) and Congressman Phil Crane (R-IL 8th District). Abbott was awarded a Foreign Policy Fellowship with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a James A. Kelly Korea Fellowship with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College and received a MA from the University of Chicago and a diploma from the United States Naval War College. Abbott is a member of the board of directors of the Japan America Society of Chicago.
