In 2001, The Chicago Council began a series called Asia in Chicago to generate greater public awareness and dialogue about Asia, including the analysis of civic, political, social, economic, and environmental issues. The series is co-sponsored by the Center for East Asian Studies and the South Asian Language and Area Center at The University of Chicago and the Southeastern Asia Center at Northern Illinois University.
