Global Chicago

The Global Chicago Center enhances Chicago’s strengths as a global city and raises awareness – both here and abroad – of Chicago’s international connections by:

  • Identifying Chicago’s economic, social, intellectual, and cultural links to the rest of the world.
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration among internationally minded groups.
  • Helping Chicagoans understand the challenges and opportunities associated with globalization.

Global Chicago maintains a Web site, globalchicago.org, which includes a comprehensive calendar of international events being held locally and a growing database of local and global resources, in particular the Media Guide to Foreign Policy Experts in the Midwest. Global Chicago also creates joint programs with community organizations in ethnic neighborhoods.

In 2003, The Global Chicago Center published its first book, titled Global Chicago, on the impact of globalization on the Chicago metropolitan area. It organized and managed the Mexican American Task Force for The Chicago Council. Additionally, Global Chicago directs the Midwest Media Project, which works with Midwestern newspapers to broaden and deepen their coverage of global trends affecting their regions and their readers.

Global Chicago receives support from The Chicago Community Trust, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and Mr. Ernest Mahaffey.
