In December 2021, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged that the United States will work toward a “free and open Indo-Pacific.” This strategy involves reinforcing key security and economic relationships with American allies and building a new economic framework for the region. Experts join the Council to discuss whether the United States and its partners can successfully make this vision a reality amidst rising US-China competition.

Former US Navy Federal Executive Fellow
Chet Lee was the 2021-2022 Navy Federal Executive Fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs' Lester Crown Center. As a career Naval Officer, he has deployed to the Middle East, South America, and Asia. He recently served at the United States Embassy in New Delhi, India, directing US Navy and Indian Navy cooperative efforts.

Mireya Solís is director of the Center for East Asia Policy Studies, Philip Knight Chair in Japan Studies, and a senior fellow in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings. Solís is an expert on Japanese foreign economic policy, US-Japan relations, international trade policy, and Asia-Pacific economic integration.
Senior Fellow and Co-Director, East Asia Program; Director, Japan Program, Stimson Center
Yuki Tatsumi is a senior fellow and co-director of the East Asia Program and director of the Japan Program at the Stimson Center. Before joining Stimson, Tatsumi worked as a research associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and as special assistant for political affairs at the Embassy of Japan in Washington.
