2007 Public Opinion Survey conducted with WorldPublicOpinion.org

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and WorldPublicOpinion.org have collaborated with organizations in other countries to undertake a follow on study to the 2006 Chicago Council Public Opinion Survey on the rise of China and India. This survey included questions asked in the 2006 Chicago Council survey and was conducted in 18 countries and the Palestinian Territories.  The countries surveyed include roughly 55 percent of the world population.  Reports on survey topics, including climate change, the future of the UN, control of nuclear fuel, genocide and Darfur, globalization and trade, and Israel-Palestinian comparison, will be released throughout spring 2007.

Global Views 2006

The Chicago Council’s internationally renowned Public Opinion Survey is conducted every two years. In addition to painting a portrait of American public attitudes on baseline issues, each survey explores opinions on a timely theme, such as "The Rise of India and China" in 2006.  The surveys also compare American public attitudes with those in other countries.

The United States and the Rise of China and India
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, working in collaboration with the Asia Society, undertook a public opinion study that included nationally representative polls in the United States, China, and India. Parallel surveys were also conducted in South Korea in conjunction with the East Asia Institute and in Australia in conjunction with the Lowy Institute for International Policy.   The study presents a unique comparison of international attitudes on how the emergence of China and India as economic dynamos and claimants to great power status will affect the global economy, international security, and politics.

The United States and Japan: Responding to the Rise of China and India
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, working together with the Japan Economic Foundation, has released a separate report focused on comparing U.S., Japanese, Chinese, and Indian public opinion. This report covers issues of specific interest to the four countries including key bilateral relationships, the respective roles of the four nations in the world, and areas of potential cooperation.
