Hot Commodities: Raising the Incentive to Lower Greenhouse Gases
Thomas Cushing, Senior Vice President, Membership, Chicago Climate Exchange Kellee James, Economist, Chicago Climate Exchange
“Going green,” to reduce your carbon footprint, has lead to the popularity of hybrid cars, the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs, and the choice to walk or use public transportation. But these decisions are more individually based – what can companies, which have a tremendous impact on carbon emissions, do to decrease their production of greenhouse gases? The Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) is one innovative solution to the problem. As the world’s first voluntary and legally binding integrated trading system to reduce emissions of all six greenhouse gases, the CCX is setting the pace for how to manage climate change in a market friendly way. Join The Chicago Council’s Young Professionals to learn just how the CCX system is trying to “green” the corporate world.
Thomas Cushing is senior vice president of membership and business development for the Chicago Climate Exchange. Previously, Cushing was a civil trial attorney in Cook County, Illinois and taught at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, DePaul University College of Law, and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
Kellee James is an economist at the Chicago Climate Exchange. She has worked extensively with urban and rural small business owners in Brazil, Mexico, and Honduras and in community development in the United States and Brazil. James earned her MBA, with a focus on international finance, and a M.A. in international development from American University.
