The China Issue in the 2008 Presidential Election: Live China Town Hall Webcast
with
Norman J. Ornstein, resident scholar, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research David Malpass, senior managing director and chief economist, Bear, Stearns & Co.
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the National Committee on United States-China Relations are pleased to announce the second annual China Town Hall.
Norman Ornstein, noted political analyst, will speak in a live webcast from Washington, D.C., focusing on how the People’s Republic of China is an issue in the 2008 U.S. presidential and congressional elections. Steve Orlins, chairman of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, will moderate. Ornstein will then answer questions from the audience, which can be submitted by e-mail from any one of more than 40 China Town Hall webcast locations nationwide.
Upon conclusion of the webcast, David Malpass, senior managing director and chief economist at Bear, Stearns & Co., will comment in person from Chicago on China’s role as a global economic superpower.
Norman J. Ornstein is a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. He serves as senior counselor to the Continuity of Government Commission, and his campaign finance working group of scholars and practitioners helped shape reform of the campaign financing system. He is also codirecting a multi-year effort, called the Transition to Governing Project, to create a better climate for governing in the era of the permanent campaign. He serves as an election analyst for CBS News and writes a weekly column called "Congress Inside Out" for Roll Call. He has written for the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs, and regularly appears on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Nightline, and Charlie Rose.
David Malpass is senior managing director and chief economist at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc where he is responsible for economic and financial forecasts, analysis, and global investment issues. In 2003, investment institutions voted Mr. Malpass one of Wall Street’s top five economists in the Institutional Investor survey. He has held a series of economic appointments during the Reagan and Bush Administrations and was also the Republican Staff Director of Congress’s Joint Economic Committee and Senior Analyst for Taxes and Trade at the Senate Budget Committee.
