Gus Hart Fellowship

In April 2007, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs established the Gus Hart Fellowship with an endowment bequest from the Hart family. The fellowship honors former Chicago Council chairman Gus Hart and was established to bring emerging leaders from the Latin American and Caribbean region to Chicago. Each year the Hart fellowship committee selects an individual who is making significant contributions in areas such as education, economics, health, commerce, poverty reduction, microfinance, the environment, international development, governance, or society.

The Hart Fellow visits Chicago for one week and interacts with Chicago-based commercial, civic, and media professionals in a program tailored specifically to his or her interest, experience, and expertise. The fellow also delivers The Chicago Council’s annual Gus Hart Lecture, which the Hart family established in 2001, and will be honored by the Council’s Board and other leading figures in the city at a dinner following the lecture.
