Emerging Leaders Program

Class of 2012 Call for Nominations

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is delighted to announce the call for nominations for its Emerging Leaders Program, Class of 2012. The Chicago Council launched the Emerging Leaders Program in 2008 to help equip Chicago’s next generation of leaders with the background needed to compete and thrive in the global era. With the generous support of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, this two-year program provides Emerging Leaders with a deeper understanding of Chicago’s place in the global economy. The program also offers participants the opportunity to build a strong network of contacts with current civic and business leaders and, as importantly, with their Chicagoland peers. In the second year of the program, the Emerging Leaders define, develop, and produce a group project on a pressing global challenge that affects Chicago and the Midwest. The Class of 2008 released in September 2010 their report on “No Free Money: Is the Privatization of Infrastructure in the Public Interest?” and the Class of 2009 released their report “Moving Forward: The Immigration Debate and Chicago’s Experience” in October, 2011.

The first four classes of the Emerging Leaders Program include an impressive group of diverse members from civic, business, and government sectors around Chicago. The Chicago Council is once again seeking to identify approximately twenty exceptional people to participate in this program. Although this program is best suited for those in their 30s and early 40s, there is no strict age limit. An independent selection committee cochaired by John F. Manley, President, Chicago City Capital Group, and Shirley Welsh Ryan, Chairman, Pathways Awareness Foundation, and comprised of other prominent Chicago business and civic leaders will select the next class by June 2012. The two-year program will kick-off in September 2012.

The Chicago Council invites you to nominate a highly talented individual with exceptional leadership qualities by submitting a nomination form (PDF), a letter of recommendation, and the candidate’s résumé. We ask that you provide these documents to The Chicago Council on Global Affairs no later than Monday, February 6, 2012. Upon receipt of these materials, we will notify candidates of their nomination and ask them to complete a separate application. Detailed information on the Emerging Leaders Program, participant qualifications, the nomination form, and background on the four classes of Emerging Leaders can be found on our site.

The Chicago Council is enthusiastic about this program and the impact that it will have on Chicago and its future leaders. We look forward to hearing from you and receiving your nomination. Should you have any questions, please contact Molly O’Donnell, Director, Emerging Leaders Program at (312) 821-6861 or elp@thechicagocouncil.org.
